Meet Captain Mike McGeehan
From New Jersey to St. Augustine
I grew up in Long Branch, New Jersey, fishing for striped bass, flounder, trout and bluefish.
At 18, I moved south to St. Augustine and I’ve been fishing these waters ever since and have been a professional guide for the last 8 years.

How Island Fishing Charters Got Started
I never needed convincing that I wanted a life around the water.
Turning that passion into a charter business happened a little more naturally.
After years of fishing locally, some of St. Augustine’s older guides began telling me that if I got my captain’s license, they’d send their overflow trips my way.
So I did!
Those first trips turned into clients of my own, and Island Fishing Charters grew from there.
Why I Still Loves Guiding
Putting someone on a personal-best fish never gets old.
Neither does showing a family a side of St. Augustine they’ve never seen before.
For me, some of the best trips are the ones that turn into relationships: families who first step aboard while they’re on vacation and then come back to fish with me year after year.
I enjoy teaching proper fishing techniques, helping anglers understand why they’re doing something and watching kids and adults alike get better as the day goes on.
Be safe. Have fun. Catch fish.
That’s a pretty good day at work.
