Inshore Fishing Charters in St. Augustine

Follow the Tide. Find the Fish.

St. Augustine’s inshore fishery is constantly moving.

Water pushes through creeks, across flats and along shorelines. Bait moves with it. So do the fish.

Capt. Mike doesn’t believe in sitting in one spot all day hoping something swims past.

He follows the tide and the bite.

What We Target Inshore

  • Redfish – One of the fish that defines St. Augustine and a longtime favorite aboard Island Fishing Charters.

From fish working the shallows to big bull reds, they hit hard and give anglers a fight they remember.

  • Flounder – Flat, sneaky and excellent eating. Flounder are a regular inshore target and one Capt. Mike has been fishing for since he was young.

  • Trout – Speckled trout are another staple of the St. Augustine inshore fishery and a great light-tackle target.

  • Black Drum – Strong fish that spend plenty of time around the structure and productive inshore water Capt. Mike fishes.

  • Sheepshead – Known for their striped sides and frustratingly good bait-stealing skills, sheepshead are a favorite cool-weather target.

  • Mangrove Snapper – Summer brings good opportunities for mangrove snapper inshore, adding another hard-fighting fish to the mix.

More Than One Way to Catch Them

Capt. Mike fishes the technique that fits the conditions and the anglers aboard.

That can mean light-tackle artificials, live bait, dead bait, bottom fishing or even fly fishing.

The point isn’t to force one style.

It’s to figure out what the fish are feeding on, where they’re feeding and put you in position to catch them.

A Good Trip for New Anglers. Plenty of Fishing for Experienced Ones.

You don’t need years of fishing experience before stepping aboard.

Capt. Mike enjoys teaching proper techniques and helping new anglers understand what they’re doing instead of simply handing them a rod.

Already know your way around the water?

Good.

There’s plenty here to keep you busy.
